KeymasterBhuvneshwar Kumar Became First Indian Pacer To Take 300 T20 Wickets
One of the best swing bowlers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the first Indian pacer to take 300 wickets in T20, accomplishing the feat during Uttar Pradesh’s clash against Delhi on Saturday in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
Winning the toss, Bhuvi chose to bowl first for Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi scored a mammoth 233/3 in their allotted 20 overs. However, Kumar exhibited his experience and conceded only 29 runs in his four-over spell. He took the wicket of opener Yash Dhull in his second over to reach 300 wickets in the shortest format of the game. In reply, UP could only muster 186/8 and lost the game by 47 runs.
Apart from him, only three Indians have taken more than 300 wickets in T20 and they all are spinners- Yuzendra Chahal, Piyush Chawla, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
This was Kumar’s first competitive game since the IPL 2024, and he picked up 11 scalps in 16 games in the last edition. However, SRH parted with him after 10 years of service ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 34-year-old is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the IPL with 181 wickets in 176 matches and will be available for grabs in the auction for a base price of INR 2 cr.
Kumar played his last T20 game for India during the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-finals in Melbourne. Having made his T20I debut in 2012 against Pakistan, the ace bowler featured in 87 games for India and claimed 90 wickets at a stunning strike rate of 13.05. He can swing the ball both ways and has yorkers and knuckleball in his armory for the death bowlers, making him a desirable asset for any team.
