During the 2012 T20 World Cup, he smashed 123 off only 58 deliveries against Bangladesh in Pallekele batting at no 3. The solid wicket-keeper batter hit 11 fours and 7 sixes in his knock to help the Kiwis reach 191 after 20 overs. His strike rate was a staggering 212.06.  Therefore, New Zealand won the match by 59 runs and McCullum was given the Man of the Match for his explosive performance.
