KeymasterIndians With Fifties In Both Innings On Test Debut
Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game and it tests your skills, patience, and character. Every batter in the world wants to see themselves donning the whites for their country once in their lifetime. Most of the players get nervous in their first game while a few hold their nerve steel. Touching a milestone number such as fifty or a hundred takes a newbie’s confidence to the sky. So far, 512 players have played the longest format for India, let’s have a look at the rare Indian players with fifties in both innings on test debut.
Dilwar Hussain
To date, only four Indians have scored fifties in both innings on their test debut. Dilwar Hussain was the first one to do so in 1934 against England.
Sunil Gavaskar
Veteran batter Sunil Gavaskar later achieved the feat in 1971 against the West Indies, making 65 & 67* in 1st and 2nd innings respectively.
Shreyas Iyer
Fifty years after Sir Gavaskar, Shreyas Iyer etched this elite list with 105 and 63 runs on debut against New Zealand in Kanpur.
Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan has joined the premium chart with Sunil Gavaskar in the recently concluded 3rd test of England’s tour of India 2024 in Rajkot. The debutant first amassed 62 and in the 2nd innings, he notched up a smooth unbeaten 68 to make his day memorable. The Mumbai batsman demonstrated his spin bowling playing skills with ease, hammering the English spinners with sweeps, step-outs, and slogs. Sarfaraz’s outing dictated that he was ready for the highest level with aggression.
