KeymasterJoe Root Became England’s Highest Run Getter In Tests
Veteran batter Joe Root became England’s highest run-getter in tests during the 3rd day of the 1st test of England’s tour of India 2024. Root surpassed former opener Alastair Cook to achieve the feat who had 12472 runs in his name.
Just before lunch, he smashed a four with a beautiful on drive off Aamer Jamal to pip Cook to become the player with the most test runs for England and reached 71 off only 59 deliveries. Root now stands fifth on the all-time leading run-scorer list in tests.
In the first innings against Pakistan, the elegant batsman scored a spectacular 262 off 375 balls with the aid of 17 fours in Multan to take the visitors’ score to 823 for 7 in 150 overs before they declared. It was Root’s 6th double century in the format and 35th century. He took only 305 balls to touch the double-hundred mark. Although Babar Azam dropped him earlier on day 4 on 186, he made full use of his new life to hammer the Pakistani bowlers to the left, right, and center.
It has been a test match full of records for Joe Root. On day 4, he became the first English batsman to score 20,000 runs in international cricket, surpassing 183. The Yorkshire batter is now the second active player in international cricket to have 20000 or more runs after Virat Kohli.
