Mohammed Shami Became Most Expensive Indian Bowler In IPL History

Mohammed Shami, the veteran Indian pacer, endured a forgettable outing as he became the most expensive Indian bowler in IPL history during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s clash against Punjab Kings at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Hyderabad, on Saturday in IPL 2025. The 34-year-old conceded a record 75 runs in his four-over spell, an unwanted milestone he’ll hope to move past quickly.

Most Expensive Indian Bowler In IPL History

On a batter-friendly pitch, Punjab Kings elected to bat first and posted an imposing 245/6 in 20 overs, scoring at a phenomenal run rate of 12.25. The batting onslaught was led by skipper Shreyas Iyer, who smashed a fiery 82 off 36 balls, alongside several Punjab batters who took full advantage of the conditions. While Hyderabad’s bowlers struggled, Shami had the roughest day.

In his opening over, Shami conceded 14 runs, followed by 23 runs in the next over as youngster Priyansh Arya blazed three sixes and four boundaries against him. Shami showed glimpses of improvement in the 13th over, giving away only 11 runs, which briefly restored his confidence. However, his final over proved disastrous—Aussie all-rounder Marcus Stoinis hammered four consecutive sixes off the last four balls, finishing with 34 off just 11 deliveries.

Punjab’s dominant batting display left Hyderabad’s bowlers with little to celebrate, and Shami’s nightmare outing will undoubtedly linger as one of IPL’s most challenging moments for a bowler.
