Mohammed Shami to Conferred With Arjuna Award

Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will be conferred the prestigious ‘Arjuna Award’ for his rich contribution to the Indian cricket team in the 2023 World Cup. Shami became 46th among male Indian cricketers and 58th overall cricketer to get the accolade.

After missing the first few World Cup games, Shami started wreaking havoc on the opponent’s batting lineup, taking 24 scalps in 7 games at an astonishing average of 10.70. The Bengal seamer bagged three sensational fifers, including his career-best of 7/57 against New Zealand in the semi-finals in Mumbai which led India to the finals. Without Shami’s bowling exploits, it would not have been possible for India to architect such an incredible journey.

Shami was also the highest wicket-taker in the IPL 2023, scalping 28 wickets in 17 matches for the runner-up Gujarat Titans.

Along with 25 sportspersons, only one player from the cricket fraternity Mohammed Shami will be bestowed with the honor of “Arjuna Warad” on the 9th of January 2024 in front of the President of India.
