Most Sixes In An IPL Innings By A Team
Punjab Kings now holds the record for the most sixes hit in an IPL innings by a team. In a historical chase of 262 runs against KKR at Eden Gardens in the IPL 2024, the PKBS batters went berserk on the hosts’ bowlers and smashed 24 sixes in total. Opener Jonny Bairstow led the chase with his spectacular 108* off 48 balls, followed by Shashank Singh’s quickfire 68* off 28 balls. Earlier in the innings, Prabhsimran set the tone with his lightning 54 off 20 balls. PKBS won the game by eight wickets and 8 balls to spare.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has hit the second most sixes in an IPL innings as a team. They achieved the feat in a group match of the IPL 2024 in Bengaluru. The visitors produced a powerful batting performance and scored 287/3 in their allotted twenty overs, the highest score by a team in IPL. Travis Head led the charge for them with a breathtaking 102 off 41 balls, including eight sixes, followed by Henrich Klassen’s 67 in 31 balls which was laced with 7 sixes. Eventually, SRH registered a victory by 25 runs.
SRH hit the same number of sixes in the 2024 edition again this time against Delhi Capitals at their den. The assault was launched by the opening duo of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, who scored 89 off 32 balls and 46 off 12 balls respectively to give their team a rapid start, taking them to 266/7 in 20 overs with the help of quickfire 59 in 29 balls by Shabaz Ahmed lately.
Before Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bengaluru held the record for the most sixes in an IPL innings by a team. They hit 21 sixes in a game against PWI in 2013 in Bengaluru where Chris Gayle hit 17 maximums alone in his historical explosive knock of 175* in 66 balls. Their record lasted for 11 years before SRH broke it in 2024.
