RCB Clinched Their First IPL Trophy

RCB Women’s clinched their first IPL trophy at the Arun Jaitley Stadium after beating the 2nd time finalist Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets and three balls to spare. It was RCB women’s first final game and they ended up winning the trophy and handed the franchise their first one.

In the evening of the finals, DC skipper Meg Lanning chose to bat first, and with the contribution of Shafali Verma’s 44 off 27 balls and Lanning’s 23 the hosts were restricted to a mere 113 runs in 19 overs. Purple Cap winner Shreyanka Patil’s four-fer and Sophie Molineux’s three-fer skittled through the DC batting lineup. In the pursuit of lifting their first silverware, skipper Mandhana and experienced campaigner Devine stitched a 49-run partnership for the first wicket. Both made a decent thirty apiece. Then it was the clutch player and the Man of the Match of the eliminator, Ellyse Perry who stood tall till the last with Richa Ghosh finishing off the game in the 19th over with a four over the covers.

      RCB won First IPL Trophy

The Bangalore-based franchise had to wait for 17 years to hold the coveted trophy. Their Men team qualified for the finals three times in 2009, 2011, and 2016 but could not hold their nerve better on any occasion. On the contrary, the Women’s unit demonstrated their ability to handle the pressure in the second edition itself.

Molineoux’s three wickets in the 7th over which aided RCB to shift the momentum to their favour rewarded her the Man of the Match in the finals.
