KeymasterShivam Dube Ruled Out of Bangaldesh T20I Series
Mumbai-based all-rounder Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the Bangladesh T20I series which will start on 6th October in Gwalior due to a back injury. The BCCI selection committee has named 21-year-old Tilak Varma as his replacement for the three games.
Shivam Dube sustained the back injury during the practice session and has established himself as one of the most reliable all-rounders who can smash big sixes during the middle overs and can also roll his hands for some medium pace. He was a part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning Indian team and played some crucial cameos throughout the tournament, including 27 off 16 balls in the finals against South Africa.
On the other hand, Tilak Varma made his T20 debut last year against West Indies and made 179 runs in the series. Since then, the Southpaw has featured in 16 games and amassed 336 runs at an impressive strike rate of 139.41, including two fifties. Nevertheless, he was omitted from the team for the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka series earlier this year. Tilak would look to score heavy runs if he is given a chance to cement his place in the side amid massive competition.
India’s other two T20Is will take place 9th and 12th of October in Delhi and Hyderabad respectively.
