One of the future reliable batters of the Indian cricket team, Shubman Gill has participated in only one edition of the Cricket World Cup which was hosted by India in 2023. Opening the batting for India throughout the World Cup, his highest score of 92 off 92 balls came against Sri Lanka in a group-stage game. The Punjab-born batsman smashed 11 fours and 2 sixes in his fine innings. Riding on that and a few fifty-plus scores, India reached 367/8 after the completion of 50 overs at the Wankhede Stadium. In reply, Sri Lanka was bowled out for a mere 55 runs and lost the match by a big margin of 302 runs.
