Washington Sundar Registered His Career Best On Test Return

All-rounder Washington Sundar registered his career-best of 7/59 on his stunning return to the Indian test side during the 1st day of the 2nd test against New Zealand in Pune. His 7 fer is also the best bowling figure by an Indian in this 2023-25 cycle, surpassing Ashwin’s 7/71 against West Indies in 2023.

Sundar returned to the test side after more than three and half years since the England tests series in 2021 and wreaked havoc on the Kiwi batting lineup, pitching the ball in the right areas which produced sharp turns from around the wicket away from the left-handers and into the right-handers from over the wicket. Ashwin sent back the first three batters and after that, It was Sundar’s show on the ground. His wickets include well-set Ravindra who he castled on 65 with a peach of an off-spin delivery. The last wicket of him was also a delight to watch as he bold Santer with a similar delivery as Rachin. His excellent spell triggered a collapse to the visitors’ batting lineup and bundled them for 259 runs from a strong position of 138/3.

The Tamilnadu bowler’s impressive seven-wicket haul also made him the first Indian off-spinner to take a fifer in tests since Ravi Ashwin first took in 2011.
