KeymasterWriddhiman Saha To Retire After 2024-25 Ranji Season
One of the best wicket-keepers to ever play for India, Wriddhiman Saha is all set to retire from all forms of cricket after the conclusion of the 2024-25 Ranji season. The 40-year-old took to social media handles to announce this sad news for the cricket fans: “After a cherished journey in cricket, this season will be my last. I am honored to represent Bengal one final time, playing only in the Ranji Trophy before I retire,” Saha wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Thank you to everyone who has been part of this incredible ride, your support has meant the world. Let’s make this season one to remember…”
Saha was a specialist test player for India and after the retirement of MS Dhoni in 2014, he started regularly featuring in the national side, especially in the home tests. He played his last game for India in 2021 against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium and the BCCI scrapped his central contract in 2023, ending the road for his comeback. The Bengal boy was outstanding with the gloves, demonstrating stunning acrobatics and keeping skills. In 40 tests, he scored 1353 runs at an average of 29.41 with the help of 6 fifties and three fifties. Saha also featured in nine ODIs, however, he failed to capitalize on opportunities.
According to some reports, the ace keeper will not participate in any sort of competitive cricket and has not even registered himself for the upcoming mega auction which means the 2024 season with Gujarat Titans was his last IPL. The Gujarat-based franchise also did not retain him for the IPL 2025.
Saha played for four more franchises excluding Gujarat in the Indian Premier League- KKR, CSK, KXIP, and SRH. In the finals of the 2014 IPL final against Knight Riders, Wriddhiman became the first Indian batsman to score a hundred in an IPL final.
