Yusuf Pathan To Contest Lok Sabha Elections
Former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan to contest Lok Sabha elections from the Berhampur constituency of West Bengal in 2024. The spin-bowling all-rounder will take part in the election for Trinamool Congress. He also became the third cricketer from the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team to enter politics after Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir.
The Chief of Trinamool Congress and West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee announced the names of 42 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election which included ex-cricketers Yusuf Pathan and Kirti Azad. Pathan to fight for the seat against veteran Berhampur politician Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who has a domination in the area over decades. Although the Congress is yet to finalize its candidate in the constituency, Adhir Chowdhury is most likely to get the ticket for the former ruling party.
Yusuf Pathan last played for India in 2012 in a T20 game against South Africa. The Baroda boy played 57 ODIs and 22 T20Is for our country and scored 810 and 236 runs respectively.
