      First Century In IPL

The IPL or Indian Premier League started 16 years back in 2008 with eight major teams. Since then the tournament has instituted itself as the biggest franchise cricket league in the world. It’s the money matter that has attracted all the big players around the globe to take part in and make the event superior.

Scoring a century in a T20 game is a high-class act. It takes an aggressive intent to score a big century by playing fewer balls and hitting boundaries often. Over the years, we have seen some amazing hundreds from the top batters around the world. Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has smacked the most tons in the lucrative league, having scored eight of them in 242 matches.

The first century in IPL came in the first match of the maiden IPL season in 2008 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Getting the opportunity to bat first, KKR opened with skipper Sourav Ganguly and Brendon McCullum and after scoring 3 runs in the 1st over, McCullum shed carnage on the RCB bowling lineup consisting of Zaheer Khan, Praveen Kumar, Jacques Kallis, and Sunil Joshi. The Kiwi wicket-keeper scored an unbeaten 158 off 73 deliveries, having reached the century mark in just 53 balls. The swashbuckling batsman hit 13 maximums and 10 fours in his dynamite innings and helped KKR win the game by 140 runs. He was conferred with the Man of the Match award for his superb knock.
