KeymasterMost Wickets In Powerplay In IPL
Powerplay plays a huge role in this new world of T20 format. For the batters, it is an opportunity for the batters to score quick runs as only two fielders are allowed outside of the circle, and on the other side, for the bowlers, it gives an edge to swing the ball around and claim some early wickets to push the batting team on the back foot. The bowlers who have pace do not get much benefit from the new ball, however, the bowlers with swing along with pace make the most of it. Since the inception of IPL in 2008, bowlers like Irfan Pathan, Dale Steyn, Praveen Kumar, Lasith Malinga, Zaheer Khan, etc have taken part in the event. Let us take you through the bowlers with the most wickets in powerplay in IPL.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has taken the most wickets in powerplay in the IPL. The classic swing bowler has 67 wickets in his name in the powerplay in 163 innings at an impressive economy rate of 6.17. Both in and out swings in his armory help him a lot to keep the batters under pressure with the new ball.
Deepak Chahar comes second on the elite list of most wickets in the powerplay in IPL with 59 scalps in 77 innings. He is a bit costly, going at a rate of 7.90 in the initial overs. But his ability to swing the ball both ways has always benefitted his team.
Vidarbha first bowler Umesh Yadav has grabbed 59 wickets in 130 innings, which is the joint 2nd most wickets in the powerplay in IPL. Yadav does not boast great swing but his decent seam position often takes the ball away from the batsmen and sometimes nips back in strangely to deceive the batters.
Zaheer Khan had a great career in the IPL. He accumulated 57 wickets out of 102 in the powerplay only. Khan could control the seams exquisitely and it wreaked havoc on many batting lineups in IPL.
