      Sunil Chhetri Announced Retirement From International Football

      Indian stalwart Sunil Chhetri announced his retirement from international football on Thursday via a social media post on different platforms. He said the game against Qatar which is also a part of the second round of the Fifa World Cup qualifiers will be his last game donning the Indian jersey. The game will be played on the 6th of June at the Iconic Salt Lake Stadium.

      The 39-year-old from Bengaluru started his international career in 2005 against Pakistan and scored a goal in his debut match. He has represented India in 150 games in his 20 years of career and netted 94 goals, which is the fourth most in the history of international football. He is only behind the likes of Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Ali Daei.

      Chhetri who took Indian football to new heights with his incredible skills every time he stepped on the field was bestowed with ‘The Padma Shri Award’ in 2019 and ‘The Khel Ratna Award’ in 2021.

      He won Intercontinental Cup two times with Team India in 2018 and 2023 while lifting the SAAF on four occasions in 2011, 2015, 2021, and 2023.
