Trent Boult Retired From T20 World Cup

Veteran New Zealand swing bowler Trent Boult retired from the T20 World Cup after the game against Papua New Guinea on 17th June 2024 in Trinidad. He confirmed the announcement on 15th June after the game against Uganda in the press conference.

Trent Boult Retired From T20 World Cup

The fast bowler from Rotorua ended his career at the big event with 2/14 in his four-over spell. Boult started his journey in Bangladesh in 2014 at the mega event and featured in 18 games across five editions, bagging 34 wickets at an astonishing strike rate of 12.64. His misery economy of 5.93 dictates the difficulty of scoring against him. Boult is currently the 9th highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup history.

Since his arrival at the highest level in 2011, Boult has sealed a place on the national side for his ability to bowl both swings, perfect yorkers, and good bouncers. In New Zealand’s great run in the 2021 T20 World Cup where they ended as the runner-up in the UAE, he was a significant contributor with 13 wickets in 7 matches, the 3rd most in that edition.

Earlier in 2022, Boult opted out of being on New Zealand’s central contract so that he could play the various franchise leagues around the globe. After the decision, the ace bowler has barely played in any format for the country but only in the ICC events. New Zealand will definitely miss the services of Boult as he always provided breakthroughs with the new ball and was equally good in the middle and death overs. His shoes would be hard to fill for anyone.
