KeymasterVinesh Phogat Disqualified From Paris Olympics 2024
Ace Indian athlete Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified from the Paris Olympics 2024 after being overweight in the 50kg category of women’s wrestling on the second day (Wednesday). She was all set to face American wrestler Sarah Hildebrand in the finals today, 7th August. On the morning of the finals, after weighing Vinesh was found 100 gm overweight which is ineligible as per the rules of the Olympics, leading her to a heartbreaking disqualification despite giving her blood and sweat.
A day before the finals, Vinesh hogged the headlines across the world for beating the four-time World Champion Yui Susaki from Japan in the Super 16 by 3-2. In the next match which was the quarter-final, She defeated Ukraine’s Oksana Livach by 7-5 and eventually hammered Cuban Yusneylys Guzman by 5-0 in the semis, becoming the first Indian woman to reach the Gold medal bout in wrestling.
In the Paris Olympics. a wrestler has to weigh in the morning before their fight as per the regulation. The event takes two days to find the winners in the Olympics and the wrestlers are supposed to measure their weight on both days to fight in the finals.
The whole Indian contingent is in despair after the horrific news about their star grappler Vinesh Phoghat who left no stone unturned to bring glory to the 1.4 billion people of India. It is also said that Vinesh’s team pleaded for some more time to reduce her 100 gm weight but was refused by the authorities.
As Phoghat is out of contention to stand on the podium now, the women’s 50kg wrestling will have Gold and Bronze medal winners this year.
