Shreyas Iyer Slammed A Double Century In Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Snubbed For BGT Series

Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer slammed a belligerent double century for Mumbai against Odisha on Thursday, day 2 of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 in BKC, Mumbai. Recently, the BCCI selection committee ignored Shreyas Iyer for the upcoming BGT series in Australia.

Shreyas arrived at no 5 after the departure of Rahane and played a sensational knock of 233 runs off just 228 balls with the help of 24 fours and 9 sixes while he reached the 200-run mark in just 201 balls, taking his team to a massive 602/4 in 123.5 overs before declaring in the first innings. The brilliant batter stitched a stunning 350-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Siddhesh Lad who remained unbeaten on 169 in 337 balls. This was Iyer’s first double-hundred in first-class cricket since his 202 against Australia A during the 2017-18 Border Gavaskar Trophy.

Shreays led KKR to their third IPL trophy in 2024. However, KKR management did not retain him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. This spectacular innings will help him to attract big money in the auction, scheduled on the 24th and 25th of November in Jeddah. Moreover, it’s also a reminder for the selectors that he can contribute immensely to the middle-order in the Indian test side.
