KeymasterOn this day in 2004, MS Dhoni made his international debut against Bangaldesh in an ODI in Chottogram. He could make his arrival grand as he got run out for a duck. However, his first international century came against Pakistan in his 5th ODI at Visakhapatnam where Dhoniw went berserk against Pakistani bowlers and scored a remarkable 148 off just 123 deliveries.
MS went on to play 538 matches for India across three formats while leading India to three ICC trophies as captain starting with the 2007 T20 World Cup, then the 2011 World Cup, and lastly the 2013 Champions Trophy. In 350 ODIs, the Ranchi wicket-keeper batter amassed 10773 runs at an impressive average of 50.53. MS had a decent outing in tests too with 4876 runs at a healthy average of 38.09 while in the t20s MS often batted down the order and could play 15-20 balls maximum, scoring 1617 runs in 98 matches.
Dhoni’s most important innings came when it mattered the most, at the grand stage of the 2011 World Cup final in Mumbai. He came to bat at No 5 in the match and scored a match-winning unbeaten 91 off 79 balls, including the finishing six off Nuwan Kulasekara.
