      India is certainly a cricket-loving nation but it has to take a long stride to become a sports-loving nation. India started its journey in the Olympics in 1900 in Paris and Norman Pritchard won the first-ever medal in the form of silver in the 200-meter hurdle race for the nation. He again brought glory to the nation by winning a silver medal in the 200-meter race in the same installment. The nation with a 1.4 billion population clinched its first gold medal in the Olympics in the 1928 edition in Amsterdam by beating the hosts in the final by 3-0 and Major Dhyan Chand scored all the goals. in the 2020 edition, Neeraj Chopra engraved his name on the record books by becoming the first Indian to win a Gold medal in track and field. He made a massive throw of 87.58 meters in Javelin in Tokyo to bag the Gold.

      Overall, India has won 41 olympics medals across 25 editions of the Olympics, consisting of 10 Golds, 10 Silvers, and 21 Bronzes. Eight out of ten Gold medals have appeared alone in Men’s Hockey while seven accolades have come in a variety of weight classes of wrestling. In Boxing, India has brought in 3 medals, Vijender Singh was the first Indian to earn a medal in 2008 whereas Mary Com cliched the first medal among women in the 2012 London Olympics.
