KeymasterKane Williamson Ruled Out Of Second Test Against India
Experienced New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the second test against India at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune due to a groin injury he suffered during the previous Sri Lanka test series. He also missed the first test as he failed to recover on time.
The New Zealand Cricket Board confirmed that Williamson will miss the second test on Tuesday 22nd October following his non-recovery from the groin injury. They also stated that he has to go through rehabilitation in New Zealand.
In the first test, Will Young replaced Williamson and did not make us feel his absence with decent scores of 33 and an unbeaten 48 in New Zealand’s eight-wicket victory over India in Bengaluru which happened to be their first win in tests in India, ending a 36-year drought.
The visitors bundled the hosts for a mere 46 runs in the first innings due to the condition misreading by skipper Rohit Sharma. All ten wickets were taken by the hostile Blackcaps fast bowlers led by Matt Henry’s 5/15. In reply, New Zealand took a 346-run lead on the back of Rachin Ravindra’s fabulous 134. However, Indian batters showed character and determination in the second innings and made a huge comeback with a solid score of 462 runs, thanks to the brilliant 150 by Sarfaraz Khan, 99 by Rishabh Pant, and 70 by Virat Kohli. But it could give a target of just 107 runs which the Kiwis chased easily within 28 overs.
