Ricky Ponting is a right-hand top order batsman from Australia who played all three formats and even captained the side for a long time. He led Australia to win the 2007 World Cup, 2006 and 2009 Champions Trophy. The charismatic batsman amassed 13378 runs in 168 tests and 13704 runs in 375 ODIs, making him the highest run-getter across formats for Australia. The best innings of his career came in the 2003 World Cup final, a rampage knock of 140 off 121 balls against India in Johannesburg which helped Australia to lift their third World Cup trophy.

Kolkata Knight Riders purchased Australian ace Ponting for INR 16064000. He played under Sourav Ganguly in KKR and featured in four games and scored a mere 34 runs with the best score of 20. After the inaugural IPL season, Ponting participated in the Indian Premier League four years later in 2013 and this time Mumbai Indians drafted him into the team as captain. The veteran batsman scored 52 runs in 6 matches. In all, Ponting accumulated 91 runs in 10 outings at a poor average of 10.11. He could not even cross the 25 run mark once in his IPL career.
