Steve Smith Touched 10000 Test Runs, Becoming The Fourth Fastest To Do So

Australian batting maestro Steve Smith reached a significant milestone during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle by surpassing the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket. Smith achieved this feat in his 205th innings, making him the fourth fastest batsman to reach this landmark, following legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and Brian Lara, who accomplished it in 195 innings, while Ricky Ponting did so in 196 innings.

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, Smith scored a brilliant 141 off 251 deliveries on a spin-friendly wicket. Interestingly, he narrowly missed reaching this milestone earlier when he was dismissed for 99 against India in the Sydney Test. Smith’s inclusion in the “Ten Thousand Club” is a testament to his perseverance, consistency, and extraordinary talent. His 35th century also made him the fourth Australian to achieve this milestone, joining the ranks of Allan Border, Steve Waugh, and Ricky Ponting.

At 35 years old, Smith boasts an impressive average of 56.33 after 115 Tests, amassing 10,140 runs, including 35 hundreds and 41 fifties. His unorthodox yet effective batting technique has consistently frustrated bowlers and contributed to his prolific run-scoring.

Smith’s achievement not only cements his legacy but also underscores his unwavering commitment to the game. He remains a pivotal figure in the world of cricket, inspiring aspiring cricketers worldwide.
