      Sunil Gavaskar Test Runs

Sunil Gavaskar is one of the greatest to ever take part in the game. He represented India in tests from 1971 to 1987 in 125 tests. The Bombay lad made his first appearance in the longest format of the game against West Indies at the age of 22 in India’s tour of West Indies in 1971. Gavaskar did not feature in the first game due to a nail infection but made an immediate impression at the highest level with a half-century in both innings in the 2nd test. He scored 774 runs in his maiden test series in 4 games, including an outstanding 229 in the fourth innings of the 5th test in Trinidad.

The technically sound batsman was praised for his ability to play fast bowling with ease and he scored most of his runs against the vicious fast bowling of West Indies. His thirteen out of thirty-four hundreds came against the Men in Maroon. Having played 125 tests, Gavaskar amassed 10122 runs at a staggering average of 51.12 which also contained 45 fifties. In his last test series against Pakistan in 1987, the ace player became the first batsman to make 10000 test runs in Ahmedabad. The once in a generation player who faced fast bowling without a helmet with unlimited bouncers allowed accumulated 96 runs in his final innings against Pakistan in Bangalore.
