KeymasterVirat Kohli Announced Retirement From T20 Internationals
Indian stalwart Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20 internationals after India’s T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in Barbados on 29th June. The ace batsman bagged the Player of the Match award in his final T20 game for India for scoring a resilient 76 off 59 balls against South Africa.
Virat embarked on his T20I journey in 2010 against Zimbabwe and donned the Indian jersey 125 times, including 35 T20 World Cup games, and scored 4188 runs (the 2nd highest) at an impressive average of 48.69. He smacked 38 fifties and 1 ton in the format with the highest score of 122* which came against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022. The ace batsman also ended his T20 World Cup career by being the highest run-getter, amassing 1292 runs in 35 matches.
Two of Virat Kohli’s knocks in the format will always be immortal- the heist of 82* off 53 balls against Pakistan at the MCG when almost all the batters except Hardik Pandya got out and Kohli won the game from a no-returning point and the anchor knock of 76 in 59 deliveries in the finals of the 2024 T20 World Cup when wickets kept falling from the other end and Kohli tamed India in the game, propelling them to 176/7 after 20 overs.
Apart from this, he was the highest run-getter in two editions of the T20 World Cup in 2014 and 2016 respectively. India will miss the services of Virat Kohli in run-chases, especially on the tough batting wickets. His legacy will remain alive in the hearts of millions of fans amid ending his career on a high note.
