One of the mainstays of the Indian cricket team for the last 12 years, Virat Kohli recently retired from the T20 internationals after India lifted the WC trophy on 30th June in Barbados. There were a lot of speculations about Virat Kohli not participating in the T20 World Cup 2024 but when India announced the squad it turned out that the management had laid their faith on his experience and grit. Kohli played in all eight games in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA, scoring only 151 runs at a poor strike rate of 112.68. He did not get runs in the group stage but made a decent 30 against Afghanistan in the Super 8.

His highest and most memorable innings came in the finals against South Africa in Barbados. Opening the batting for India, he scored a persistent 76 off 59 balls laced with 6 fours and 2 maximums. Wickets were falling from the other end but Virat kept the scoreboard ticking and took India to a commendable total of 176/7 after 20 overs. His sensational innings earned him the Man of the Match award as India defeated the Proteas in a last-over thriller by 7 runs.
