KeymasterRohit Sharma Joined Virat Kohli For T20I Retirement
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma joined Virat Kohli for the T20I retirement after their incredible unbeaten streak till the end of the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit became the 2nd Indian captain to lift the trophy and ended the 17-year drought after MS Dhoni clinched it in 2007.
Rohit started his T20I career with a match against England in the 2007 T20 World Cup and finished his career on a high note with 4231 runs in 159 outings at a stunning strike rate of 140.89 with the help of 32 fifties and 5 centuries. He is the only Indian to feature in nine editions of this version of the World Cup. He finished his T20 WC journey with 1220 runs in 47 games, the 2nd most runs in the event.
Out of all editions, the 2024 one was his best as he led the team from the front with a fearless approach and racked up 257 runs in eight appearances at a staggering strike rate of 156.70. His onslaught of 92 off 41 balls in the quarter-finals against Australia in St.Lucia was crucial for India’s victory and he followed it up by a smooth 57 off 39 balls in the semis against England. Rohit led India in two editions and won the title in his 2nd attempt in the West Indies and USA. With the victory, the Mumbaikar also became the only Indian to win two T20 World Cup titles.
Sharma always believed in brisk starts and aggressive shots in the format which often took India ahead in the game. His selfless fashion in cricket would be hard to match for any youngster. But after serving India for 17 years, there could not have been a better day to pull the curtains on T20 internationals than the T20 World Cup winning day itself.
