India’s Squad For BGT 2024-25

The BCCI announced India’s 18-member squad for the BGT (Border Gavaskar Trophy) 2024-25 on Saturday. The tournament will start on November 22nd, with the first test scheduled in Perth. Abhimanyu Easwaran, Nitish Reddy, and Harshit Rana have been picked for the series while chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav has missed out owing to an incurable groin injury and has subsequently been referred to the BCCI center of excellence.

Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran has been rewarded for his great run in the domestic circuit in 2024. He has scored over 1000 runs in ten matches this year at a staggering average of 81.00. The classy batsman has scored at least a century in the Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy, and Irani Cup. He will travel to Australia as the third opener with captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Delhi pacer Harshit Rana and Andra Pradesh all-rounder Nitish Reddy are in a purple patch in 2024. Rana first won the IPL 2024 with KKR and then was included in the Indian team for both white-ball formats while Reddy has already impressed the selectors on his T20 debut against Bangladesh with a quickfire half-century knock and decent bowling after a brilliant IPL season. Karnataka seamer Prasidh Krishna has also found a place in the tests for the first team since his debut in South Africa earlier this year. He was out of action for a while following a stress fracture, however, he shined with the ball for India A in their title win in the Duleep Trophy earlier.

Ace fast bowler Mohammed Shami has missed a berth as he is not fully fit yet, he suffered an ankle injury during the home World Cup in 2023. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are the only experienced fast bowlers in the unit with Akash Deep retaining his place with his fascinating show in the England and Bangladesh series. As reserves, India has kept Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed in the squad.

Washington Sundar made an eye-catching comeback to the test side during the 2nd test between India vs New Zealand with a maiden ten-wicket haul, will be the third spinner after Ashwin and Jadeja. Sundar made his test debut in the 2020-21 Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia.

The complete batters in the team are Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul,  and Sarfraz Khan while Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant will be the men behind the wickets.
