      IPL is the biggest and wealthiest T20 league in the world. T20 cricket demands fours and sixes in regular intervals nowadays. Gone are those days when the wickets used to be a bit tricky, currently the deck is flat in the format in almost every game. Hence in the IPL too, batters start bashing the bowlers from the beginning without wasting any time. The likes of Rohit Sharma, David Warner, Chris Gayle, MS Dhoni, AB DE Villiers, etc have even hit the bowler on a good ball too, such the game has progressed over the years. Each year the number of sixes hit by the batters is increasing compared to the last edition. This article will take you through the most sixes in an IPL season.

      In IPL 2024 total sixes were 1260 and Abhishek Sharma from SRH hit the most sixes in IPL 2024 season which is 42 sixes.

      2023 IPL Season (1124)

      In the 2023 IPL season, 1172 sixes were hit in 74 matches. Among all, RCB skipper Faf Du Plessis smacked the most number of sixes with 36 sixes in 14 matches. The Proteas opener was the 2nd highest run-getter, scoring 720 runs at an impressive strike rate of 153.68.

      2022 IPL Season (1062)

      The 2022 IPL season saw the batters smashing 1062 maximums in a total of 74 appearances. The 2022 T20 World Cup winning skipper Jos Buttler who became the second batsman after Virat Kohli to score 800 runs in a season bashed 45 soaring sixes. This was the first time the tally of sixes crossed 1000 in an edition of IPL.

      2018 IPL Season (872)

      The 2018 edition of the IPL gets 3rd place on the elite list of most sixes in an IPL season. The big hitters like Andre Russell, MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, AB De Villiers, etc rocked the stage with their signature shots for sixes. However, it was Rishabh Pant who smacked the most sixes (37) and scored the most runs (684). The Delhi batter amused everyone with his strokeplay ability in his first season itself.

      2019 IPL Season (784)

      784 Sixers were creamed in the 2019 IPL installment in 60 games, the 4th most sixes in an IPL edition. Caribbean all-rounder and one of the mainstays of Kolkata Knight Riders, Andre Russell hit the highest number of sixes in that season, smashing 52 sixes in 14 games. Russell was in beast mode and accumulated 510 runs at a staggering strike rate of 204.81.
