KeymasterSourav Ganguly’s Last IPL Match
Sourav Ganguly is probably the best left-hand batsman India has ever produced. His aggressive captaincy and ability to win games in overseas tours made him one of the greatest captains of India. Having made his international debut in 1992, Ganguly played 424 games for India across all formats and scored over 18000 runs. The “Prince of Calcutta” led India to the 2002 Champions Trophy triumph.
He started his IPL career with Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008 as captain and scored 349 runs in 13 games at a decent strike rate of 113.68. He stayed with Kolkata till 2010 and in 2009, he was replaced by Brendon McCullum as the skipper of the side. However, in 2010, he got his captaincy back but it did not change the fortune for KKR. Ganguly played his last two years for the newly functional Pune Warriors India.
The Southpaw played his last IPL game in the 2012 IPL edition against his previous team Kolkata Knight Riders in Pune. it was the last group game for PWI. Batting at no 4 position, Ganguly made 5 runs off 8 balls before getting trapped by Shakib Al Hasan in front of the wickets. The hosts failed to chase a mere total of 137 runs due to a superb bowling display by the KKR bowling unit. The Kolkata boy made only 269 runs in 15 matches, at a poor strike rate of 98.89 that season.
