First Player To Score A Century In Test

Charles Bannerman is the First Player To Score A Century In Test.

Test cricket is the pinnacle of all formats in cricket. The first-ever international match was also played in the test format in 1876 between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Winning the toss, Aussie skipper Dave Gregory decided to bat first in the Iconic venue.

Charles Bannerman opened the batting for Australia and became the first batter to score a century in tests as he smacked a smooth unbeaten 165 to take his team to 245 runs in the 1st innings. Bannerman shined with his batting maestro on a wicket where other batters struggled to cross the 20-run mark. No English bowler could get him out but he had to leave the field being retired hurt after injuring his index finger while batting.

Bannerman could only score 4 runs in the 2nd innings. But his superb century aided Cricket Australia to register their maiden test victory by 45 runs and script history.
