KeymasterIreland Registered Maiden Test Triumph
Cricket Ireland registered their maiden test triumph against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi in the one off test. Their win came after 7 losses on a trot. The Green army created history and it will be cherished forever.
Winning the toss on 28th February, Afghanistan arrived on the crease and got folded for a mere 155 runs because of a hostile spell by Mark Adair who claimed 5/39. For Afghanistan, only Ibrahim Zadran crossed the 50 run mark. Then Ireland made 263 runs in their 1st innings on the back of decent 40s by Campher, Tucker, and a composed 52 by experienced Paul Stirling.
The 2nd innings saw Afghanistan accumulating 218 runs, courtesy skipper Hasmatullah Shahid’s fighting 55 and debutant Rahmatullah Gurbaz’s responsible 46. However, the collective seam bowling from Young, McCarthy, and Adair restricted them to 218 and set them an easy target of 111 runs.
In the pursuit of an achievable number, Ireland stumbled to 13/3 due to some attacking bowling from young Afghans but from there Irish skipper Andrew Balbirnie led from the front with a match winning 58* off 87 balls and stitched a 72 run stand for 5th wicket with Tucker, who notched up 27* and took his team home by 6 wickets.
