      Lasith Malinga’s Last IPL Match

Lasith Malinga is one of the greatest bowlers to ever play limited-over cricket. Especially, in T20 cricket his unplayable dipping slower ball and yorker turned out to be killer for the batters. In 84 T20Is, the slingy fast bowler bagged 107 wickets at a misery economy rate of 7.42, including two fifers.

The Lankan legend made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings in 2009 at Wankhede Stadium and returned with a figure of 3/15 in his quota of four overs. He played all his IPL for Mumbai only and won four titles with them. His last IPL match was the final between CSK and MI of the 2019 edition in Hyderabad. Batting first Mumbai Indians posted a fighting total of 149/9 on board. It was a tight bowling by the Mumbai Indians bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah’s 2/14 in 4 overs and before the last over of the game, Maling’s bowling figure was 0/42 in three overs. CSK needed 9 runs to win the last over and skipper Rohit Sharma handed over the ball to the death over King Lasith Malinga. He conceded seven runs in the over and trapped Shardul Thakur before the wicket in the last ball when two were required in one ball. It was a dramatic finish from Malinga, helping MI to lift their fourth title.

Overall, his bowling figure in the penultimate of his IPL career read 1/49 in 4 overs. Malinga signed off from IPL with style with a title win and 170 wickets in 122 games in his name.
