Lowest Total Defended In IPL History

Punjab Kings achieved a historic milestone in IPL 2025 by defending the lowest total ever—111 runs—against Kolkata Knight Riders during the 30th fixture at Chandigarh. This remarkable feat eclipsed Chennai Super Kings’ record of defending 116 runs in the 2009 season.

Electing to bat first, Punjab struggled, collapsing to 111 all out in just 15.3 overs. Prabhsimran Singh was their lone performer, scoring 30+ runs. Kolkata’s bowlers, led by Harshit Rana (3/25), Varun Chakravarthy (2/21), and Sunil Narine (2/14), dominated the innings.

Despite the modest target, Punjab’s bowlers scripted an extraordinary turnaround. Marco Jansen and Bratlett struck early, reducing KKR to 2 wickets in the opening overs. Although Rahane and Raghubanshi steadied the chase with a 55-run partnership, Yuzi Chahal turned the game with an inspired spell. He dismissed both set batters alongside Rinku Singh and Ramandeep in the 12th over, breaking Kolkata’s momentum before Marco Jansen sealed the thrilling contest in the 16th over by removing Andre Russell, KKR’s final hope.

Yuzi Chahal emerged as Punjab’s standout performer with figures of 4/28, while Marco Jansen impressed with 3/17. The Kings recorded a phenomenal victory by 16 runs, delivering one of the most sensational defensive victories in IPL history.
