MS Dhoni’s Total Centuries In International Cricket

Mahendra Singh Dhoni started his international career in 2004 against Bangladesh as a hard-hitter and got run out without scoring a run. In the initial stages of his career, Dhoni batted in the top and middle order but after becoming the captain he became the mainstay of the Indian cricket team across all formats in the lower middle order. In his fifth international match which was an ODI against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam, the Ranchi boy scored his maiden international hundred, an explosive 148 off 123 balls against a strong bowling corp consisting of Abdul Razzaq, Naved Ul Hasan, Mohammad Sami, and Shahid Afridi.

Dhoni’s maiden test ton also came against Pakistan in 2005 in Faisalabad. The stalwart displayed his aggressive fashion of batting in the red ball cricket too and stunned the world with an excellent 148 off 153 balls.

MS Dhoni hit 10 hundreds and 73 fifties in 350 ODIs while scoring 6 centuries and 33 fifties in 90 tests. He scored 17266 runs across formats for India at a dashing average of 44.96. In total, the ace wicket-keeper batter has 16 centuries to his name in international cricket.

The number of centuries that MS Scored after playing over 450 matches at the highest level may be less but batting mostly at no 6 and 7, the impact he made by bashing the bowlers around the park was huge. He saved and won many games for India in all three formats when the ICT collapsed, dictating his ability to soak pressure. Dhoni’s batting was all about winning the games for India and he had always been a team man rather than achieving personal milestones. Nobody remembers the number of centuries he scored but everybody will always remember his matchwinning 91* off 79 balls in the 2011 World Cup final and 76* at Lord’s during the 2nd test of India’s tour of England in 2007 which saved the match for visitors after wickets kept falling from the other end, helping India to draw the match and win the test series by 1-0.
