KeymasterNeil Wagner Announced Retirement From International Cricket
Kiwi test specialist Neil Wagner announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday 27th February. This tough decision he made after the New Zealand Cricket Board informed him that he would not be a part of the playing xi against Australia in the 1st test at Wellington on Thursday (29th February).
The passionate red-ball player represented the Blackcaps in 64 tests and bagged 260 wickets, the 5th most for the country, at a stunning strike rate of 52.7. The left-arm seamer made his test debut against West Indies at North Sound in 2012 and his career-best figure of 7/39 also emerged against the same opposition in 2015 at Wellington. Wagner has left a mark in test cricket with his intense fast bowling and the fiery back-of-length deliveries will always be cherished by fans which bothered the likes of great Steve Smith.
The South Africa-born player had a chance to hold an ICC Trophy despite not playing white-ball cricket as he was a part of the inaugural ICC Test Championship-winning New Zealand squad that beat India in Southampton in 2021.
