Pat Cummins Clinches ICC Cricketer Of The Year 2023

Australian star bowler Pat Cummins clinched the ICC Cricketer of the Year Award in 2023. The veteran fast bowler bagged the prestigious award eclipsing Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and fellow teammate Travis Head. They all outperformed everyone in their respective departments.

Pat Cummins had a dream run in international cricket across formats with bat and ball. Especially as a captain, first, he guided Australia to win the World Test Championship final at the Oval then led the Aussies to win their 6th World Cup title in Ahmedabad against their favorite opponents India. In the Ashes also, he managed to draw the series in England.

The lanky fast bowler bagged 59 wickets and scored 424 runs with the willow in hand in 24 games across formats. In tests, he finished with 42 wickets in 11 outings, the 2nd highest by any bowler while in 13 ODIs, he bagged 17 wickets, where most of them came in his successful WC campaign. His best in tests was 6/91 in Headingly against England. But his memorable spell emerged against India on a slow surface in the finals of the 2023 World Cup, 2/34 in his 10 overs spell which included the wicket of in form Shreyas Iyer and the highest run-getter Virat Kohli which silenced the huge Ahmedabad crowd.

If we talk about his batting contributions, the first test of 2023 Ashes at Edgebaston comes to our sight. He scored a toiled 38 in the 1st innings and followed it up by a match winning unbeaten 44 off 73 balls to take the game in Australi’s favor by 2 wickets. The 2023 World Cup also saw the batting skills of Cummins, first in the match against Afghanistan he showed his teparmanet and batted along side double centurion Maxwell and amassed 12* off 68 balls to chase down 293 runs. Afterwards, in the semi-finals against South Africa, his composed knock of 14* off 29 deliveries with his bowling partner Starc in Kolkata took his team in the finals.

This is for the first time Australian test skipper Pat Cummins won the esteemed ICC Cricketer of the Year award which is named after the best all-rounder of all time, Sir Garfield Sobers.
