Australia Squad For Champions Trophy 2025

Cricket Australia announced its preliminary squad for the forthcoming Champions Trophy 2025 on Monday, 13th January. Pat Cummins who led the team to win the 2023 World Cup has been named as captain despite having an ankle injury with which he featured in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy and assisted them to win by 3-1. Matt Short and Aaron Hardie have been added to the unit for their three-dimensional ability and it will be their first ICC event.

Among the notable omissions, Sean Abbott, Spencer Johnson, and Jack Fraser McGurk’s names are there. Having experienced players like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins have compelled the selectors not to give a nod to the mentioned bowlers. However, Jake Fraser McGurk was seen as a perfect successor for David Warner especially in the white ball cricket. But, he could not impress the management with his chances, scoring only 87 runs in five outings.

The core batters of the Australian setup are Travis Head, Steven Smith, and Marnus Labuschagne who have proved themselves in the previous major competitions. The 2009 Champions are taking all-rounders Glenn Maxwell, Micthell Marsh, and Marcus Stoinis to attain proper balance in both and bowling.

Alex Carey and Josh Inglish will be on the flight to Pakistan while Adam Zampa will be the only complete spinner.
