Ben Stokes Withdrew Name From T20 World Cup

English all-rounder Ben Stokes has withdrawn his name from the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June. He has conveyed to the management that he does not want to be considered for the selection. His main reason for not playing the 9th edition of the T20 WC is being not able to bowl for his team.  The 2019 World Cup winner underwent knee surgery after the completion of the 2023 World Cup in India.

Earlier, he opted out of the IPL 2024 and last appeared for the national team in the recently concluded England tour of India 2024,  playing all five test matches and bowling only five overs. The New Zealand-born English cricketer was pivotal in the finals against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, scoring 52 off 49 balls in the low-scoring thriller to clinch the 2nd trophy for England.

Stokes said to the management- “He wants to be completely fit as an all-rounder which means he will work on his bowling fitness. He did not bowl in the 2023 World Cup and played all the games as a batsman. Stokes wants to play some county matches for Durham to check and regain his bowling fitness before the start of the test summer.

Having featured in 43 games, the Southpaw has scored 585 runs and taken 26 scalps in T20Is.
