Kevin Pietersen, one of the finest English batters to ever play the game played his last IPL game in the 2016 edition for the Rising Pune Supergiants against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Pune. Pietersen was batting for the Pune-based franchise at no 3 that season and he went back to the dressing room after being retired hurt while running, scoring 0 in 1 balls. The hosts lost the game to RCB by 13 runs as they failed to chase a target of 186.
The ace English batsman ended the season with 73 runs in 4 matches at a decent strike rate of 134.72. Overall, Pietersen culminated his five years of IPL career with 1001 runs in 36 matches under his belt with 4 fifties and a century.
Pietersen started his IPL career in 2009 with RCB and stayed with them till 2010. He did not participate in the 2011 edition of the competition. In 2012, he joined the Delhi Capitals and it was his best season with 305 runs in 8 outings at an impressive strike rate of 147.34. Having missed the 2013 edition, he led the Delhi side in 2014 and scored 294 runs in 11 matches.
