England Announced Squad For Champions Trophy 2025, Joe Root Named In The Team

The England cricket team has announced its squad for the Champions Trophy 2025 and India white ball series, veteran batter Joe Root has been included in the team since his last appearance in the 50-over format in England’s group stage exit in the 2023 World Cup in October-November, 2023 in India. England’s white-ball captain Ben Stokes has been ignored for both events due to the hamstring injury he sustained in the third test against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Root scored 276 runs in nine matches in the World Cup 2023 at a mere average of 30.66 which is lower than his fascinating career average of 47.60. However, boss Brendon McCullum has shown faith in him following his sublime form in tests this year where he made 1556 runs in 31 innings at 55.57 with the help of six centuries with 262 against Pakistan being his best score.

England’s main fast bowler in the last few years in ODIs, Reece Toply has been dropped along with their star all-rounder Sam Curran who played a pivotal role in winning the 2022 T20 World Cup by being the Man of the Series.

Jos Buttler will lead the side while Ben Duckett and Phil Salt will open the innings for the Three Lions. Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, and Jamie Smith will handle the middle order. The lower order consists of all-rounders Liam Livingstone, Jaime Overton, and Adil Rashid.

England has roped in five fast bowlers for the mega ICC event and preceding India tour who all are capable of bowling in excess of 90 MPH- Jofra Archer, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson, and Sawib Mahmood.

England will look to add the Champions Trophy to their trophy cabinet with their fresh squad of experienced and young talented players. The Champions Trophy will tentatively begin in the third week of February with India’s matches being organized in Dubai.
